About Yogi Adityanath
Born Ajay Mohan Singh Bisht (5 June 1972), Yogi Adityanath has his roots in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. His late father was Anand Singh Bisht. Yogi was the second-born in the family, among four brothers and three sisters. In terms of education, Yogi holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mathematics from the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Uttarakhand.
Yogi Adityanath’s political journey:
In 1998, Yogi Adityanath was first elected to the Lok Sabha from the Gorakhpur Constituency in Uttar Pradesh. At that time, he was just a 26-year-old, making him one of the youngest members of the 12th Lok Sabha.
After that, he never looked back and went on to win the seat for five consecutive terms (1998, 1999, 2004, 2009, and 2014). He resigned in 2017 to become the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

He has served as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh since 2017. Yogi is not only the state’s longest-serving chief minister but also the first to hold the office for two consecutive terms in the history of the state.

Why is Yogi a potential PM face for BJP?
1) Popularity: Yogi Adityanath enjoys immense popularity not only in UP but also outside his home turf. He frequently addresses public rallies for his party in different states during assembly elections.
2) Law and order push: Yogi Adityanath has been credited with bringing law and order to the state and ending mafia raj.
3) Strong Hindutva image: Yogi Adityanath enjoys a very powerful Hindutva image as a result of his strong backing from the Gorakhnath Math.

His relationship and interactions with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have also received significant political attention. However, his political journey has not followed the conventional RSS organisational route.
