INTERVIEW | Monday Talk | ‘Congress has a great future; BJP is in decline’: Sanjay Jha
Interview of Sanjay Jha: This is the third term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has been in office since 2014. On one hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP government have been crediting themselves for various development works. On the other hand, the Congress party has been criticising the central government on numerous occasions.
Presently, the Congress party is attacking the central government over the US President Donald Trump‘s reported intervention during Operation Sindoor and for reportedly negotiating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
To talk about this and many more issues, journalist Anurag Sason has an in-depth conversation with veteran Indian National Congress party leader Sanjay Jha.
Here are some important experts from the exclusive interview. Scroll down to watch the complete conversation.
Q1) The Modi government is saying that US President Donald Trump has played no role in the ceasefire during Operation Sindoor, but the Congress party is saying otherwise. Your comments on this.
Sanjay Jha: The President of the USA has said it over 29 times that he brokered the ceasefire between India and Pakistan using trade as an instrument of diplomatic pressure. Now, who would contradict him? Ideally, it has to be done by the Prime Minister. When Rahul Gandhi challenged him, PM Modi did not categorically mention that Trump didn’t broker the ceasefire. Mr Modi refused to do that.
Q2) What do you have to say about the India-US trade scuffle?
Sanjay Jha: We have come under a lot of intimidation, threat, and bullying by the United States, largely because the Indian political leadership has been weak.
Q3) In which direction is India’s foreign policy going?
Sanjay Jha: Everybody in India knows, now at least, that the Modi government uses foreign policy as an instrument for its domestic politics. I don’t think this government ever understood how to have a farsighted foreign policy.
India’s foreign policy under Mr Modi is an F grade…a failure!
Q4) How to do see the apparent bonhomie between the BJP and Dr Shashi Tharoor?
Sanjay Jha: I think this is where Dr Tharoor got it wrong…I don’t think you can defend this government for the intelligence security failure that led to the death of 26 people in Pahalgam.
Q5) After 27 years, the BJP got the opportunity to form a government in Delhi. Why did the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lose, and why did the Congress party miss the opportunity?
Sanjay Jha: I think Congress needs to introspect within. The AAP lost because I think they were arrogant to some extent.
Q6) What will happen in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Election?
Sanjay Jha: Bihar is ready for a radical change. One of the reasons why this SIR drama is being played out is because the BJP knows that if it loses Bihar, it could lose the whole of north India!
Q7) Congress party’s future in India?
Sanjay Jha: Congress party has built this country…The Congress party has a great future. The BJP is on the decline, Congress is on the rise!
Q8) During previous governments, in case of some eventuality, minister(s) used to resign. Now, we see nothing like this. Your comments.
