INTERVIEW | Monday Talk | ‘Delhi’s bad dream is over’: Raj Kumar Bhatia slams AAP-Congress rule; Says govt working to ease old vehicle ban
Interview of Raj Kumar Bhatia: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formed a government in the national capital of India, Delhi, after 27 years. On the one hand, people are hopeful that this “double engine” government will double the speed of vikas (development) in the Union Territory. On the other hand, the government has to figure out major challenges and act swiftly!
To talk about major issues and get insights on the Delhi government’s functioning, journalist Anurag Sason has an in-depth conversation with Delhi BJP vice president and MLA from Adarsh Nagar, Raj Kumar Bhatia.
Here are some excerpts from the exclusive conversation. Scroll down to watch the complete interview in Hindi.
Q1) Now the BJP is in power. What challenges are you facing?
Raj Kumar Bhatia: As a result of long, hard work by the party workers, we have formed a government in Delhi. It has been five months since we formed the government, and everyone can see the pace at which we are working. People can see that work is being done.
Yes, it will take time to set things right. Ms Rekha Gupta, along with her MLAs, is setting new standards.
Q2) How do you see the last 10 years of governance of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)?
Raj Kumar Bhatia: It was a bad dream for the people of Delhi. Now that we are in power, we can see that nothing was done in the past.
Q3) Delhi has seen both Congress and AAP governments. If you have to compare, which one was better? What improvements will the BJP offer?
Raj Kumar Bhatia: Under Sheila Dikshit, work was done, but the government got involved in corruption. Both governments in the past had ample opportunities to work, but they didn’t.
Now we are ruling and we are setting new standards for good governance.
Q4) How serious is the problem of encroachment in Delhi?
Raj Kumar Bhatia: Rekha ji has clearly said that we have to make Delhi clean and better for everyone. Even if we have to act tough, we will. The aim is to make Delhi neat and clean.
Q5) What about those who will be displaced?
Raj Kumar Bhatia: Those who are living in shanties are being provided flats.
Q6) What is your take on the ban on old vehicles in Delhi?
Raj Kumar Bhatia: WATCH THE INTERVIEW TO KNOW THE ANSWER
Q7) Who will be the next president of the Delhi BJP?
Raj Kumar Bhatia: That is up to the party to decide. Virendra Sachdeva ji has done a good job, and no one can deny that. As far as I’m concerned, I will fulfill whatever task I am given.
Q8) What will be the priorities of the Delhi government in the coming five years?
Raj Kumar Bhatia: WATCH THE INTERVIEW TO KNOW THE ANSWER
Q9) There is a trend nowadays of privatisation of schools and colleges! Most people can’t afford such costly education for their children. Is Delhi Sarkar doing something to make government schools and colleges better?
Raj Kumar Bhatia: No one in our Delhi government has said that we are moving towards privatisation. Even private institutions in Delhi are streamlined by the Delhi government. People of Delhi need not worry about this.
