2027 UP Assembly Election: Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is set to lock horns with incumbent CM Yogi Adityanath as the state inches closer to the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections. On the one hand, the Bharatiya Janta Party’s Hindutva face will not let any stone unturned to become the CM of the state for the third time which in turn will consolidate his position as national leader and could be future PM face of the saffron party. On the other hand, this will be a do-or-die battle for Mulayam Singh Yadav’s son and for his Samajwadi Party.
2027 UP Assembly Election
Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly elections are expected between February and March 2027 to elect all 403 members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Yogi Adityanath is the incumbent Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh who has won two elections back-to-back.
In the last assembly poll, the BJP received 41.29% of votes and won 255 seats. The Samajwadi Party received 32.06% of votes and won 111 seats. In UP, 202 seats are needed for a majority.
Alliances in UP
There are two major alliances in Uttar Pradesh right now – National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA).
In NDA, we have parties like: Bharatiya Janata Party, Apna Dal (Sonelal), NISHAD Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal, and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party.
In INDIA, we have parties like – Indian National Congress, Samajwadi Party, Lok Dal and Jan Adhikar Party.
About Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)
Bahujan Samaj Party has decided that it will contest the upcoming 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election entirely alone without any alliances. BSP chief Mayawati has made the announcement.
In the 2022 UP Assembly Election also, BSP contested alone! It won only one seat in 2022 and secured 12.88% of the total vote share.
Yogi Adityanath Vs Akhilesh Yadav
Whereas on the one hand, Yogi will pitch his development agenda and strong law and order in the state to woo voters; Akhilesh will try to corner the incumbent government on the Ram Mandir donation row and communal politics.
Conclusion
The 2027 UP Assembly Election will be a tough one as it will be a do-or-die battle for Akhilesh Yadav and a prestige battle for dominance for Yogi Adityanath. The key will be in the hands of the voters.
