Is Rahul Gandhi’s Life Under Threat? | Political Documentary by Anurag Sason
Rahul Gandhi security threats: Is Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi‘s life under threat? This is the question that has come up after repeated aviation scares involving him, as well as threats from politicians from other parties!
Major mid-air aviation scares with Rahul Gandhi
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi (56) has experienced three major mid-air aviation scares. These incidents have drawn significant public and media attention.
- The Hubli Free-Fall Incident
On April 26, 2018, Rahul Gandhi, while flying from New Delhi to Hubli, Karnataka, for an election campaign, encountered a mid-air aviation scare. His chartered Dassault Falcon 2000 aircraft suddenly suffered a severe mid-air glitch.
The autopilot of the plane unexpectedly disengaged. The aircraft was cruising at 41,000 feet. It not only tilted suddenly and heavily to one side but also plunged roughly 735 feet in a matter of seconds. Reportedly, the Gandhi scion later remarked that the sudden drop made him think “it was all over“!
- The Patna Engine Snag
Next year, exactly one year after the Hubli incident, Rahul Gandhi faced another scare on April 26, 2019. During the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign, a flight carrying him from Delhi to Patna developed a sudden engine snag shortly after takeoff. With no option left, the pilot safely turned the aircraft around. The plane made an emergency landing back in the national capital, Delhi.
- The Lucknow “Go-Around” Incident
On September 8, 2026, another major aviation scare occurred while he was traveling as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP). An Air India flight carrying Rahul Gandhi encountered severe gusty winds during its final approach to the runway. The Congress party leader was travelling from Delhi to Lucknow (UP).
Due to the winds, the pilot executed a sudden “go-around” maneuver right before landing. After about 10 minutes, the plane circled safely and landed without further issues on its second attempt.

Provocative speeches by other party leaders
In September 2025, during a live TV debate on News18 Kerala, BJP spokesperson and former ABVP leader Pintu Mahadev stated that Rahul Gandhi “will be shot in the chest”!
Political history and Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother, late Indira Gandhi, and his father, late Rajiv Gandhi, both were killed in assassinations. Keeping these threats in mind, any threat towards the Congress leader must not be taken casually.
