Rise of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra: From Campaign Star to MP | Documentary by Anurag Sason

Priyanka Gandhi documentary: For a long time, many political experts have seen Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as a trump card for the Congress party. In 1989, she first campaigned for her father, Rajiv Gandhi. At that time, she was just 17 years old. After that, she appeared campaigning for her brother and mother in the Congress constituencies of Rae Bareli and Amethi. However, till then she had not entered active politics!

Priyanka Gandhi’s entry into active politics

On 23 January 2019, Priyanka, the younger child of Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi, formally entered politics after being appointed as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary in charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh. On 11 September 2020, she was made the General Secretary in charge of the entire state of Uttar Pradesh.

During the 2024 Lok Sabha election, after extensively campaigning for the grand old party Congress and taking a more organisational role within the party, she decided that she would join electoral politics and contest as the party’s candidate for the Wayanad bypoll. She contested the seat vacated by her brother Rahul Gandhi. By a margin of 4,10,931 votes, she- in whom many people see a reflection of her grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi-won the election.

In Parliament, she serves alongside her mother Sonia Gandhi and brother Rahul Gandhi. In the 18th Lok Sabha, she and her brother are the only sibling duo serving together.

Priyanka Gandhi as a rising star of Congress and Indian politics

Like her grandmother, father, mother, and brother, Priyanka Gandhi has an apparent talent to connect with common people. She has campaigned for her party and is now making her voice heard inside and outside the Parliament, on national issues.

Many see her as a rising star of Indian politics who has a long innings to go in the ever-changing democracy of India.
