A Hindu festival, Hanuman Jayanti commemorates the birth of the God Hanuman. The Hindu deity is one of the protagonists of the epic Ramayana and its many versions. Also known as Bajrangabali, he is considered the God of wisdom, strength, courage, devotion, and self-discipline. Lord Hanuman is revered as a devoted companion of the deity Rama.
The festival falls after Chaitra Navratri and Rama Navami. As per the Hindu calendar, the festival is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Chaitra (Chaitra Purnima).

About birth of Lord Hanuman
Born to Kesari and Anjana, Lord Hanuman is a vanara (monkey/ape). However, according to mythological sayings, he is also known as the celestial son of Vayu (the wind god). Bajrangabali’s mother was a nymph (apsara). She was born on Earth due to a curse. Anjana was redeemed from the curse upon giving birth to a son.
Observances
On Hanuman Jayanti, devotees visit temples, give offerings, and do charity. They also do recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa and the Ramayana and its other versions.

The Hindu deity has five siblings – Matiman, Shrutiman, Ketuman, Gatiman, and Dhritiman.
