Birth of Lord Rama
In Valmiki’s Ramayana and the Mahabharata, details regarding the birth of the deity Rama are noted. As mentioned, in the city of Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh), Lord Rama was born to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya. The queen gave birth to the deity on the ninth day of the Shukla Paksha of the lunar cycle of Chaitra – the first month in the Hindu calendar – (March–April). Since then, the day has been observed as Rama Navami. The birth of the God is also part of the Chaitra Navaratri festival.
