Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repealed the New Farm Laws, on Friday. He made the announcement while addressing the nation at 9 am.
In September 2020, three farm acts were passed by the Parliament of India resulting in a stalemate between the Modi government and the farmers. Since January 2021, there was a court stay on the farm laws. A few rounds of talks also took place between the farmers and the centre but nothing positive came out. Farmers and their unions demanded that the laws be repealed and stated that they will not accept a compromise.
