Political Analysis of Kisan Andolan: As UP Polls 2022 are inching closer, political activities in India’s second most food grains producing state have gained momentum. Rakesh Tikait, leader of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), has started mobilizing farmers in the state against the Modi government’s New Farm Laws. Recently held Mahapanchayat in Muzaffarnagar (Western UP) is a perfect example.
Opposition political parties in UP-Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress-are supporting Kisan Andolan since the very beginning. Akhilesh Yadav, ex-CM of the state, has said that farmers are upset with not only UP CM Yogi Adityanath but also PM Narendra Modi. He claimed that his party will win 400 seats (out of 403 assembly seats)in the assembly polls.
What’s more? Two new political players- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM)-are also entering the political fight.
So the million-dollar question is: Will Kisan Andolan harm the BJP in the upcoming UP Polls 2022?
