About Lalu Prasad Yadav
Born on 11 June 1948, in Phulwaria village, situated in Gopalganj district of Bihar, Lalu is a veteran politician who served as the chief minister of Bihar from 1990 to 1997, with a brief interruption in 1995. He also served as the Union Minister for Railways from 2004 to 2009, during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).
He is the founding president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). It is a prominent political party in the state. Lalu, who is also known as the kingmaker, is a former member of Parliament (MP) of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi
On 1 June 1973, Lalu Prasad Yadav married Rabri Devi in an arranged marriage. They have seven daughters and two sons.
Rabri Devi served as the chief minister of Bihar almost continuously between 1997 and 2005. Interestingly, she is the first and only woman to date to have held the office in the state.
Lalu Prasad Yadav as the leader of plebeians
Lalu, during his tenure as CM, never tried to emulate the former elite chief ministers. He not only took part in the public festivals but also popularised his famous Kurta far Holi (cloth-tearing Holi). He used to invite media persons during festivals.

Who succeeded Lalu Prasad Yadav?
Lalu was succeeded by his youngest son Tejashwi Prasad Yadav. Previously, he served for two terms as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. Currently, Tejashwi is the leader of the opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly representing the RJD.
