Since billionaire Donald Trump became the President of the USA, he has sent shock waves worldwide. To talk about this important political development, journalist Anurag Sason has an in-depth conversation with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and well-known geopolitical analyst Dr Gulrez Sheikh.
Here are important excerpts from the exclusive interview. Scroll down to watch the full discussion:
Q1) How do you see Mr Donald Trump as the President of the USA?
Dr Gulrez Sheikh: Donald Trump is Donald Trump, and we have seen many times that he is unpredictable. He is unpredictable in some things, but the unpredictability has also become somewhat predictability that he gives shock first and then bargains, starts bargaining from the very high-end, and then he comes on some middle ground and settles there. So there are some things with him, but I think he is a breath of fresh air in the United States of America (USA), away from the deep state.
This guy is something different. He might have an ideology, but he doesn’t have any ideology. So, he is not a typical guy. He is a different type of leader. He has sent some very big shock waves from Denmark to Canada to Panama to elsewhere as well but, I’m not seeing him working on all those issues.
And even when it came to tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China. He took one step ahead and two steps backward.
Q2) How do you compare Donald Trump with former US Presidents like Barack Obama and Joe Biden?
Dr Gulrez Sheikh: Well, if you ask me, I start with Barack Obama. He was a very typical kind of deep-state guy. He was doing all those things which are being done by the deep state. As far as Joe Biden is concerned, he was the typical person with not just the deep state theories, but also he was a cold war mentality guy. And that’s what we saw in everything, let it be in Ukraine, in Gaza, let it be his policies, he was behaving in a very typical predictive manner.
Q3) Do you think that Russia’s relationship with America will improve?
Dr Gulrez Sheikh: Certainly, the ice has melted. But Vladimir Putin, as well as Russians have their institutional memories along with the United States of America. They have seen the fake promises.

Q4) Two major wars are going on in the world, one at the Gaza border and the other one between Russia and Ukraine. Do you think there will be some solution?
Dr Gulrez Sheikh: It looks like. As far as the Ukraine war is concerned, I think that it will be over soon. Anyway, Russia has actually won that war.
Q5) Is Donald Trump trying to expand America’s territories up to Canada?
Dr Gulrez Sheikh: I think he wanted, but he is also giving a hard bargain for money and all those things, but if he tries to do it, it won’t be easy for the United States of America as well. Rather I will say the empire will start collapsing.
Q6) Do you think Ukraine should be part of Russia, or it should be a separate country?
Dr Gulrez Sheikh: If you talk about Ukraine joining Russia, uh, a whole-souled Ukraine cannot join Russia because if you look at the western part of Ukraine, they are very pro-European people, but if you look at the Eastern part of Ukraine, they are very pro-Russian and Russian speaking people. So you can divide the country into two parts – one is the pro-European western part, which will never, I think, join Russia. The eastern part has been annexed by Russia and is constitutionally made part of the country. So, that territory is already gone and is a part of Russian territory now.
Q7) Your comments on Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a leader.
Dr Gulrez Sheikh: I don’t consider him a leader. I think he is a product of the deep state of the United States of America.
I think, within a few days to within a few months, he will leave the country. He may go to places like Australia, New Zealand, or even Dubai.
Q8) What is the real cause of the problem in this Gaza section?
Dr Gulrez Sheikh: It is the same problem that happened everywhere wherever the British rule was there. The Britishers made the boundaries in a way that created permanent problems in every place in the world.
Q9) What can we expect from US President Donald Trump in the coming days?
Dr Gulrez Sheikh: Expect the unexpected from this guy because he is not a typical politician. And he is not a person with any kind of ideology.
Q10) Trump’s impact on South Asia.
Dr Gulrez Sheikh: He looks somewhat actually softer on China right now, but we don’t know because it has been just a few weeks, but he won’t be bad for India.
