INTERVIEW | Monday Talk | BHU Molestation Case: ‘We are demanding justice for victim, Congress is politicising,’ says national secretary of ABVP Sakshi Singh

Interview Of Sakshi Singh: On November 2nd (at around 1:30 am), a female student was allegedly molested by some men while she was walking with a male friend inside the IIT-BHU campus. Soon, the incident took political colour. Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai pointed fingers at the student organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The ABVP said that Rai’s recent remarks are ‘devoid of facts’.

To talk about the entire incident, journalist Anurag Sason has an in-depth conversation with ABVP’s national secretary Sakshi Singh.

Here are important excerpts from the exclusive interview. Scroll down to watch the complete interview in Hindi.

Q1) Tell us about the incident in your own words.

Sakshi Singh: On the night of 2nd November, the incident happened and on the very next day students gathered, protested, and demanded justice for the victim.

Q2) This incident has taken political colour. State president of the Congress party Ajay Rai has pointed a finger towards ABVP. What do you have to say about this?

Sakshi Singh: The main point is providing justice to the victim. However, the Congress party has politicised the entire incident. We are fighting for justice for the victim. What you (Congress) are doing?

Q3) How safe women are inside the BHU campus?

Sakshi Singh: I have been studying here since 2016. Efforts are being made to make the campus safe.

However, BHU is an open campus where anyone can come and go. So there should be some fixed time after which outsiders should not be allowed to come inside the campus.

Q4) Who do you think is involved in this incident? Someone from the campus or an outsider?

Sakshi Singh: I think no one from the campus will do such a thing. Someone from outside must have done this.

Q5) Do you think politics/elections should be allowed in the educational campus?

Sakshi Singh: Who will raise the voice of students? Chatra Sangh (student union) should be there in the educational campus. We have always advocated for this.

Q6) What is your take on the National Education Policy?

Sakshi Singh: Watch the interview to know the answer.

Q7) Student politics is generally divided into leftist and rightist mindset. Your comments on this.

Sakshi Singh: I think there is nothing like right, it’s centre! Whatever is the truth, we are saying that. We have no agenda. Our only agenda is to stand with the truth. We talk about national interest. Those who stand against national interest, their entire existence is questionable.
