It is being claimed by some people that idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses may have been kept behind its locked underground cells. The matter even reached court. The ivory-white marble mausoleum was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and is one of the masterpieces of Mughal architecture. On average, it attracts more than 6 million visitors per year.
