Clearly, in this tough time when entire humanity is facing its biggest challenge, India is leading the world. Despite having a population of 135.26 crores (2018), second after China 139.27 crores (2018), India handled Coronavirus pandemic really well with just around 10,000 cases till now. Many developed countries’ death tolls itself crossed the 10,000 mark!
Who shall be credited for this? Well, my take will be the spirit of Indian people in general and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in particular.
Till now the PM has addressed the nation five times. His timely and swift actions have saved us from a disaster. You all can imagine that in a country like India where we have such a densely living population if Corona had managed to hold its grip what could have happened.
Coronavirus: PM Modi’s fifth address to the nation
But thanks to the PM’s visionary approach, we shocked the world and even the World Health Organisation (WHO).
“World Health Organization commends India’s timely and tough actions to stop COVID19. It may be early to talk about results in numbers, but a six-week nationwide lockdown to facilitate effective physical distancing, coupled with an expansion of core public health measures such as detection, isolation and tracing contact of COVID19 positive people, would go a long way in arresting the virus spread,” Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director, World Health Organisation (WHO) said in a statement.
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is what we Indians believe in. It is a Sanskrit phrase found in Hindu texts such as the Maha Upanishad which means “the world is one family”.
And living to that, like always, this time too we readily helped the world in whatever capacity we can. Not only we broke the backbone of Corona in India but we also happily helped the United States of America and other countries when they asked for Hydroxychloroquine to treat the virus.
After India’s green signal, US President Mr Donald Trump tweeted:
The US President was quick to return the favour. On Monday, the Trump Administration notified the Congress of its decision to sell Harpoon Block II air-launched missiles and lightweight torpedoes worth USD 155 million to India.
Obviously, COVID19 is the greatest threat the world is facing today. The virus has affected 210 countries and territories around the world. The battle is not over yet. Together we stand against the unseen beast.
