During the Howdy Modi event on Sunday, in a jampacked stadium in Houston (Texas), Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave an enthusiastic speech. He was accompanied by US President Donald Trump. The warm feeling between the two leaders and energy in the crowd was overflowing.
PM Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump also took a lap around the NRG Stadium. And the crowd greeted them with an open heart.
However, to me, the Howdy Modi event appeared more as an occasion for Donald Trump to campaign for his Presidential election. He talked at length about his government’s achievements in the past five years.
Donald Tump seized on his own rally themes, boasting about slashing regulations, lowering unemployment, implementing a tax cut and hardening the nation’s borders against “those who would threaten our security.”
“There are those in Washington who would raid your health care to fund free benefits to those who enter our country illegally,” US President said, previewing his attacks on Democrats during the presidential campaign. “I will never allow politicians to take away your health care or give it to illegal immigrants,” he stressed.
“We stand proudly in defense of liberty and we are committed to protecting innocent civilians from the threat of radical Islamic terrorism,” Trump said.
“Indian Americans are pioneering groundbreaking medicines to save countless lives, they’re developing revolutionary technology that is changing the world, and they’re founding new businesses that provide jobs to thousands of our fellow citizens,” US President said.
“Across America, nearly 4 million proud Indian Americans enrich our culture, uphold our values, and uplift our communities. Indian Americans are pioneering groundbreaking medicines to save countless lives, they’re developing revolutionary technology that is changing the world, and they’re founding new businesses that provide jobs to thousands of our fellow citizens,” he said.
Campaigning for President Trump, PM Modi also said during his address “Abki baar Trump sarkar”.
These developments showed that the event was not only about Howdy Modi but also Howdy Trump before the US Presidential poll of 2020.
